Claire Weller is a third-year Apprentice specialising in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair at Adams Morey in Portsmouth.

Claire has always been interested in heavy vehicles and how they work, which is why she applied for this particular Apprenticeship. Now in her third year, Claire has been able to build up a solid product knowledge of DAF Trucks and develop her skills in most areas of servicing and repairs.

To give you an idea of where an apprenticeship can take you, we talked to Andy Fall, a DAF Skills Coach based at Skillnet who began his career as an apprentice himself...

I realised from an early age going out with my uncle in his truck during holidays that I wanted to work with trucks.

Julian has worked as Skillnet’s DAF Programme Manager for two years. We thought it would be nice to catch up with him and find out more about his work and his plans for DAF apprenticeships in 2019.

What is a typical day for you?

We are amazingly proud of James Butler, a third year Skillnet apprentice who has just won Bronze in the World Skills UK final.

DAF dealer Ford & Slater went home with the Apprentice of the Year Award at the 2018 Motor Transport Awards.

The black tie ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London and was hosted by Jimmy Carr (pun intended?) and Rachel Riley.
