MOTUS Commercials have just announced the winners of their inaugural ‘Regional Apprentice of the Year’ competition, recognising the efforts and achievements of their apprentices across the UK.

As most of you will recall, Elliot Dinnage from GB Gatwick, won first place in the Apprentice of the Year competition (1st Years) 2019. GB Gatwick was incredibly proud of Elliot and thought they would spoil him.

'At GB DAF Gatwick, we were overwhelmed and so proud of our Bliot, when he won the prestigious Apprentice of the Year Competition (1st Years') 2015, as we have never won anything before. This award really is a big deal for us all at GB DAF; in 2016 our Ryan Hayward came fourth, in 2018 our Ben Mortimer-Cook came second and now we have our first ever winner!

During November 2019, Skillnet ran a month-long prize draw to encourage their Technical Apprentices to maximise their use of Skillnet’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Technical Apprentices were entered into the prize draw automatically, upon scoring 80% or over in six mandatory Health and Safety e-learning modules.

Liam Rodgers, from MOTUS Commercials Cumbernauld, lifted the Scottish IRTEC Engineer of the Year Award at the annual Transport News Scottish Rewards presentation ceremony, held in Glasgow on Friday 8th November. November saw our annual apprentice event, which included a graduation ceremony, alongside our Apprentice of the Year awards. This event has become one of the most coveted in DAF's calendar, with this year being particularly well attended at The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport Wales.

Twenty Ford & Slater apprentices are set to take on their second head-to-head charity truck pull event, taking place on 1st September 2019 at Bruntingthorpe Airfield.

Last year, 14 apprentices from across the group, put their strength to the test by pulling two DAF CF's the length of the airfield, with each truck weighing 7 Stone. Split into two teams of seven, they pulled for the full 1.5 miles in just under 20 minutes, with the help of Apprentice Coordinator Lee Sursham and company Joint Managing Director, Tim Strevens.

Claire Weller is a third-year Apprentice specialising in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair at Adams Morey in Portsmouth.

Claire has always been interested in heavy vehicles and how they work, which is why she applied for this particular Apprenticeship. Now in her third year, Claire has been able to build up a solid product knowledge of DAF Trucks and develop her skills in most areas of servicing and repairs.
